Artist In Residence - BBickart

Barbara Bickart is an interdisciplinary artist, whose work is project-based. Her work takes on the form of video installation, video performance and experimental documentary. Her single channel video, installation, video performance and experimental documentary work have been presented from coast to coast and around the world.

Bickart received her B.A. from Douglass College, Rutgers University and was a Stanton Anthony Scholar. She received her M.A. from the New School for Social Research in Media Studies, where she received the Departmental Scholar Award.

In 2005/2006 she was guest Faculty in the Film/New Media Department of Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, NY. She continues to work as a consultant developing the Radical Film/New Media Laboratory project. In addition, she works as a teaching artist with the DreamYard Project, Bronx, NY and will be an artist in residence with the Lantana Project and the University of Memphis FedEx Institute of Technology in the Spring 2007.

Previous residencies include Jersey City Museum (2006 – 2007), Queer Zagreb (Zagreb, Croatia, 2005 - 2007),  DiverseWorks Art Space (Houston, TX, 2000 – 2004), Dance Theater Workshop Public Imaginations program (1996 – 2000).

Past fellowships for Bickart include New Jersey State Council on the Arts (2001), the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation (2000, 2001), and ARM (Artist Resource Media) Fellow of Dance Theater Workshop, New York (2003, 2004).

Keeping the Faith, the prison project (2001 – 2003) video artist and collaborator with choreographer, Pat Graney, Seattle, WA & Tempe, AZ

Bickart has received several grants to forward her work including: The Trust for Mutual Understanding (2005, 2006), New York State Council on the Arts Electronic Media and Film Fund (1998, 2001), ASTRAEA Foundation (2001), Open Meadows Foundation (2001), Surdna Foundation (1998), Legacy Foundation (1994), The Fund for Social Change (2003, 2004) and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (1999, 2002, 2006), among others.
